The Clinton campaign machine has developed a reputation for being adversarial, at best, with the press. Is it a response to a drubbing by the media during her husband’s presidency? Or is it a lesson learned from the Bush administration? The New Republic's Michael Crowley explains the consequences of crossing Hillary.

Genevieve,
She calls HERSELF Hillary. She's branding herself with her first name. Look at her yard signs and campaign site and flyers. Her last name isn't on any of them.
I find it interesting that in so many stories Sen. Clinton is referred to as "Hillary". It's remarkable to me. No one refers to the other presidential candidates in news stories or on air just by their first names. For example, in an NPR story this morning about Mayor Giuliani's successful fundraising efforts in Texas, no one referred to the Mayor as "Rudy". ..."Rudy raised a lot of money." "You wouldn't think Rudy would do well here." ...It would sound ridiculous.
So, why is it okay to call Hillary...Hillary?
Abut 12 wordsa or less novel untitled " Hi hows your mom? You know mom? "Right hows dad? You know mom.
Unfortunately, she or whoever the nominee is will be swift-boated. If something works it is repeated. Hopefully, they learned from Kerry's hesitant response to that nasty Rovian move in 2004, and hopefully a Democrat-leaning group will not do it to a Republican.
I just e-mailed the AP on a story I saw this morning 11/18/07, that is titled Edwards Clinton Aim at Climate Change that writes most about Senator Edwards, but shows a photo of Senator Clinton to ask them who made the decision about which photo to run, them or the cable company....as a middle school student taking an ethics in journalism class, I'm anxious to see what their answer is - it would sadden me to think that even the AP is compromised by the political machine. Thanks for the story...I'll let you know what I find out...or maybe you can ask them for me as a follow up! I listen to your show every week....I want to be a writer/journalist some day...I think..
Katie
