Hillary is the most polarizing figure in American politics; there would be no unity under her. In fact, I would wager that the Dems would lose their Congressional majority in '10 if she's elected in '08. Moreover, her accomplishments of any kind in the Senate are underwhelming.

The Dems best chance for a unifying president is Obama. I like Richardson but he seems to be running for VP.

To me it seems like Huckleberry is going through the traditional media story arc when it comes to personalities. Ignore them, love them, tear them down.

As with most of the rest of the journalistic community, you've hired people who can't spell and, apparently, can't use spell check. It's "correspondent," not "correspondant." Otherwise, a good article. Huckabee makes Bill Clinton look like St. Peter. Arkansas politics has always been a particularly sleazy brand and Ol' Rev. Huck is its latest practitioner.

It seems, now, that research has forced me to temper my enthusiasm for Mike Huckabee.

There is something appealing about a minister who knows that the phrase “separation of church and state” was coined by Jefferson to assure Danbury, CT Baptists, afraid the new nation was going to adopt a state religion, that the first amendment guaranteed their freedom of belief, whatever it was.

I guess Huck, as I had begun thinking of him because of his Lincolnesque humor and affability, might better be seen as short for "huckster", defined in part at Dictionary.com as “a person who employs showy methods to effect a sale, win votes, etc.: the crass methods of political huckster, a cheaply mercenary person.”

Still, I am of the opinion that there is a strong national yearning for a united country, in the light of all we truly are facing, as was reflected in 2004 in the flurry of rumors that Kerry was going to ask McCain to run with him.

I sort of like the image of foxes watching other foxes in the henhouse, so while I am not saying Hillary is the best Democratic candidate for the Presidency, she has shown an ability to try to achieve consensus in the Senate. Likewise, I see a potential for the same in Mike Huckabee.

Poetically the slogan, "Bring Back Hope!" rings well.

Good commentary by Max Brantley. I wonder if your interview can direct others to Huckabee's real history, not the stuff his managers pump out in large quantities for media consumption? It also deserves mention that Huckabee
engaged in mass-Moonie style marriage ceremonies which
Huck called "covenant marriages." This is what entitled him to set up his "wedding gift registry." Huckabee is compromised, big time. Just before leaving office then Gov. Huckaee destroyed the computer drives on all the computers in his office. That was destruction of state property and at least one law suit is pending on his actions.
