In an attempt to bypass the pesky media and get news directly to the fans, sports leagues have been creating their own television networks. Case in point: the admission of St. Louis Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire last month on the MLB Network that he used steroids during his playing days is "a historic, seminal event in the evolution of sports media in America,” says Tim Franklin, director of the National Sports Journalism Center.

I was coming on here to correct the Weber St. pronunciation. But to be honest, Weber St. isn't a very well-known school (outside of NCAA Tournament circles), and well, why wouldn't you think it was pronounced "web-er"? I can understand not checking on it.

Not pedantic, Tim. I like Bob, but sometimes he is more interested in how to fit in his snark than getting someone to check his pronunciation.
On the merits of the story, the question is a valid one about the level of obsession about sports at many levels of colleges?
