Smartphone apps are big business, and increasingly complicated to develop. WNYC producer Jody Avirgan talks with Rekha Murthy of PRX and Lisa Bettany of Camera+ about what it takes to get one made -- and pitches his idea for an app to Bob and Brooke.

How about an app that brings up what one politician ever said about one single issue whenever he mentions that issue? A complete timeline of flip-flops, if you will.
I would have been more interested in a serious discussion of Apple's app approval policies and other real media issues related to the process of developing and promoting an app rather than the pointless discussion with Jody about his own pointless idea for yet another space-wasting 99¢ novelty app.
Has it missed everyone’s attention how absurd it is that you find Mr. Avirgan’s idea absurd because it’s an app idea that lists app ideas when you are journalists covering journalism?

fyi, benny moore, sherwin williams and no doubt other paint companies have very handy apps that match a color (via the camera on the phone) with their paint.
It's almost ironic that this story was run this week. Earlier this week the folks at Everyday Linux, a Linux podcast I listen to each week, talked about how they created their new app for Android and Apple. Yes, they made an Android app first, not because Android is based on Linux but because the Mac app takes longer to get into the app store.
How about an app that notifies you when and how your elected Congressional officials voted.
I have an idea for an app that I really would like to see made. I travel a lot and would like an app that utilizes the GPS to find historical sites, from the mundane to significant and monumentally important. It could be like Yelp or Google Places except for history. I would buy that.
