How to use On The Media's Flash Player

You need to have Flash installed (at least version 7); this program is standard on most computers these days. If you need Flash, you can download here. If you'd rather not install Flash you will still be able to listen to any audio using Real Player.

There are actually 2 versions of our the OTM audio player: the pop-up version (above), and a slim inline version (below), which plays within the segment.  Note: you may need to adjust the pop-up blocker on your browser to allow the pop-up version of the OTM Audio Player to work.

We designed the OTM audio player to be easy to use and the controls should be self explanatory. Read on for more specific information:

1. Play / Pause - Click to start playing audio. (when a triangle is pictured), or to stop playing the current track (when a two vertical bars are pictured)

2. Progress/Status Bars - As the player downloads an audio file you will see the light grey background get larger. The bigger the light grey bar gets, the more you have downloaded. The darker grey bar overlaps the download bar and shows you what point of the audio file you are listening too. If you would like to move playback to a new position simply click on that spot on the dark grey bar, or drag the bar to another point.

3. Volume Click and drag this button side to side to adjust playback volume.

4. Pop-up Player (slim player only) Use this button to turn a slim player into a pop-up player so you can continue browsing while listening to OTM audio. If your browser blocks pop-up windows you may need update your settings to allow pop-ups on OTM.org.

5. More (pop-up player) - If there is content on OTM.org related specifically to audio currently playing there will be a More link that you can click.

Embed OTM Audio Onto Your Blog or Website

OTM now offers an "Embeddable" audio player for you to use on your website or blog. Now visitors to your site can listen to OTM audio segments without leaving your site.

To add OTM audio to your website simply click on the "embed" link under the player (this link is visible after you click "Listen") and paste the code that appears into the HTML of your page.

To embed OTM audio onto your website:

1. Click on the "embed HTML" link underneath the player

2. Copy the embed code that appears and then paste it into your HTML.

3. Enjoy the OTM audio player as it appears on your website or blog

More Information:

  • OTM's embeddable audio player takes up a small footprint and is designed to fit nicely with your content. The OTM audio player requires Flash (version 7 minimum), a very widely adopted free software.
  • Some older format audio on OTM.org cannot be embedded.
  • OTM recommends that you use current versions of web browser software; we do not support all older versions of some browsers.
  • OTM permits linking to materials on our websites for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You may incorporate our "Embeddable Player" into your own personal, non-commercial websites for use in accessing materials on our websites, provided that the player and all links to OTM are not modified in anyway. OTM reserves the right to discontinue any aspect of any of our website at any time.

What do I need in order to listen to OTM's On Demand archived audio?

Since 2006, OTM On Demand audio plays without any external player software! You need to have Flash (at least version 7) installed; this program is standard on most computers these days. If you need Flash, you can download here.

Most of our archives have been encoded in MP3 format and when copyright permits, can be downloaded and saved on your computer. Once you download, you can transfer to a portable MP3 player, burn a CD or play in the audio player software of your choice.

Some of our older On Demand audio files require Real Player. The basic free version of this player is all you need. Download Real Player.
