Opera and a bit of Comedy

Did I mention Mexico City has some of the most beautiful architecture I have ever seen? Well it does, and a shining example of that is the Palacio de Bellas Artes, or Palace of Fine Arts. Opened in 1934, the enormous theatre is made of white Italian marble, with an entire roof of crystal. Seriously, check this place out:

We were walking past the Palacio on our way to El Zocalo, the city's historic main square, when we came across some sidewalk opera. This guy, who as far as I could tell from his incredible voice must be a professional, was treating passerby to a free show. A little opera for the public directly in front of the city's house of opera. And it was really lovely, people stopping to listen, going up to shake his hand (while he was singing) to praise his performance--everyone really seemed to enjoy it. But perhaps the best part was during the finale: as the singer held his money note, a man in a red shirt went to stand by him and mimicked his performance. Not in a malicious or mocking way, just to join in the fun. Watch the performance below, the singing is beautiful and I promise the red shirted man will get a smile out of you:
