Smells Like News

August 10, 2007

We'd like to think we know our news anchors, but one thing not conveyed through the screen is how they smell. Gossip sites however recently reported that Tom Ford approached Anderson Cooper to make his own line of cologne. A Ford rep told us the reports aren’t true, but that didn't stop us from calling New York Times scent critic Chandler Burr.

If I were to design a scent of journalism it would definitely not be mardetable, foul is not marketable. And BTW, Blitzer would smell stale as well.

Nothing shows your isolation from ordinary people who take in your program like this feature. It was revolting! I could care less about your looks, after shave, shampoos, etc. Are you journalists or entertainers? Quite frankly (and I'm not prone to this kind of sharp stark criticism) I was revolted. The odor of that trivia stank so intensely that it will keep me away from your program for a very long time.

Out here in the country, you'd be surprised at how people really do think!!

Have yoiu ever wondered who your audience is? Guess what: we read, we listen to other news, we think!! We don't care how you smell. but the trivia you presented for far too many minutes for this very stinky piece was truly insulting. it didn't inspire me to tune in again in the near future.

Mira Belle - You say "out here in the country," I guess to prove your "ordinary person" bonafides. I know it ain't New York, but is Boston really Hicksville on the Charles?

Anyway, in your fit of self-righteous ordinariness you seem to have lost your love of irony. Or perhaps you missed the last few moments featuring the sublimely scented Daniel Schorr.

Mira Belle - chill! This whole segment was meant to be a light-moment joke so relax and stop pulling your hair out.

Besides, if you had any sense of humor you would've enjoyed the last bit featuring the always intoxicating voice of Daniel Schorr. Anyway, OTM isn't for self-righteous folks like you.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you're probably not having any fun and neither is anyone around you. This was hilarious. I just played it for my husband. The best part- besides the pungent perfume lingo- was the laughter of the interviewer and what sounded like others in the background. Including me.
