Presidential Adviser Karl Rove announced this week that he would be stepping down at the end of the month. Portrayed as everything from genius to puppet-master, in the end the press seemed mostly in awe of his political cunning. We take a look back at the man affectionately known as... Turd Blossom.
What to say? Is it the beginning of the end of the Bush era?
Somebody has to be President and there will always be a genius of two in the package.
In this case I think the package will be remembered in these dystectic terms and be given about this much space in the historical record.
Re: John's comment. I think the midterm elections and Rumsfeld's departure was the begining of the end, that's when I noticed a major change in the media's posture towards the war. I think around the same time CNN and other outlets declared Iraq in a state of civil war, and now we've already seen the two top republicans in the senate arms committee come out against Bush. This is just another part of "the end" I think, but defintely not the "begining of the end."
The rap parody performed at the 2007 White House Correspondent's Dinner featuring Karl Rove was transparently a minstrel show. I am dismayed, but not surprised, that the complicit "traditional media" has neither recognized nor universally reported this as such.
It is remarkable that Rosie O'Donnell, Isaiah Washington, Ray Nagin, Trent Lott and George Allen warrant the media attention and scrutiny that curiously escapes Karl Rove.
