This Thursday, Congress sustained the President’s veto of an expanded Children’s Health Insurance bill. But two poster children, Bethany Wilkerson and Graeme Frost, got the lion’s share of media attention. Reporter James Carroll covered Senator Mitch McConnell’s connection to attacks on Frost.
Are Republicans actually saying a sick child's mother shouldn't have had a baby when she didn't have job-based insurance? Let me get this straight. Do they mean that uninsured couples don't have the right to marital relations, or that it's better to abort than give birth to an uninsured child? Way to be pro-life and pro-family, guys.
Is this an intentional self-parody or some kind of joke? Who is "smearing" whom here? Senator McConnel is guilty of "propogating a smear." It is all part of the campaign of labeling opponents as "liars and frauds." Sen. McConnell accused a recipient of government charity of attending private school (which is true, by the way). How low can the Senator sink?!
If this so-called journalism show were interested in facts they might consider that the recent Bush veto was for an expansion of S-CHIP. These non-poor poster children were eligible and received a free ride under the old program, which no one is proposing to abolish.
But, as the story says, it is all about symbols isn't it. Well, it is clear what "On the Media" is a symbol of and it's not truth and it's not non-partisan.
Those children attended private school on a scholarship. This family is not rich. How typical that a comment to support the Republican point of view would leave out this crucial piece of information. Republicans always pick and choose their so called facts.
I thought the media aspect of this story was a bit light, but it did allow you to have a guest on to disparage a Republican. That appears to have been the purpose of the story.
