The book is well-worn territory for campaigners, but why not the feature film? Al Gore's starring role gave him a huge PR boost, and the film medium has some things to offer that books don't. See my blog post:

Feature films as new territory?

Wouldn't PT 109, the tale of Jack Kennedy's wartime heroism, have been a less than subtle part of his re-election campaigning? Again, he would be the model of the modern media-savvy candidate.

Meanwhile, books, as Heil points out, are a useful way to engage the reading public in an admittedly one-way discussion of ones philosophy and approach to policy of government.

Thanks for the survey, but just a quick look on Yahoo Search (Yes, I still use the evil Chinese collaborators!) tells me Mike Huckabee has written 4 books. Shouldn't you have done at least a short rundown of all the candidates’ tomes?
