Many readers and bloggers have decried The Atlantic’s decision to feature Britney Spears on the venerable magazine’s April cover. David Samuels wrote the Spears story and says that covering the paparazzi who cover the fallen pop star is a quintessential Atlantic piece.

This week's entire show was great, even judging by the very high bar I set for OTM, but I especially liked the segment with David Samuels. I probably would have had the same kneejerk, woe-is-the-Atlantic reaction that the rest of the culturally elite have had upon seeing the cover, had I not heard Samuels pitch his story here. Now, I'm about to read it.

By the way, Samuels needn't worry about killing the 150-year-old reputation of the Atlantic, no matter how much his story might disappoint. If there is one person who holds that responsibility, it's whoever hired McMegan.

This is a classic NPR piece these days. They've doubled their listnership and halved their quality. A piece about Britney and her paparazzi makes it to NPR. And I'm supposed to give them more money? Pitiful.
