For a few years in the early 1960s, small, pornographic books called Stalags were a runaway success in Israel. The books were set in Nazi prisoner-of-war camps and featured a complicated mix of violence, sex and revenge fantasy. And according to Ari Libsker’s new documentary, "Stalag," they shaped, and even perverted, a generation’s feelings about the Holocaust.
Mr. Lipsker's interview included a comment by the interviewer stating that "research has shown that there were no sex pleasure houses in the concentration camps". I am not a Holocaust scholar myself, but this comment brings me back to a picture of an Israeli kibbutz member, taken in the 1950s, which shows her upper chest branded with a tatoo reading "Feld Hure" ("Field Whore" in German) and a number. This picture is probably not orchestrated and thus raises some doubt regarding the comment made.
Auschwitz had a brotherel, post office, swimming pool, and theatre for inmates.
