Artificial Sweeteners

May 01, 2009

With every incoming administration the press struggles to establish its sources, often using what’s called a ‘beat sweetener’ – a flattering article or portrait that endears the reporter to their chosen official. Michael Calderone of Politico.com helps us recognize the journalistic valentines in this season of the beat sweetener.

This story would be much more credible if OTM also took on the membership sweeteners that NPR relies on twice a year to increase listener interest for the two weeks before the pledge drive begins.

Ha!

I grew up with Michael in NJ. Did you know he played drums in a punk band back in the day? True story. I called my Mom the second I heard this in the podcast.

At last, our sleepy little suburb has a second star (the first being Dennis "America We Stand As One" Madalone).

Can't even figure out what Matt W is talking about this time or what moral equivalency might pertain.

Hey, 've been hoping all the nice things 've been writing about the Obama's, here, will get me invited to the White House for an audio or video exclusive, myself!

Mean, 'm not looking for a job with them or anything. 'm not squeaky clean enough for that, nor owe any taxe.

just that beat sweeteners and membership sweeteners should be equally explored. It is pledge week at WAMU after all.
