August 21, 2009

While working on a piece about what it takes to disappear from your life in a digital age, Wired Magazine reporter Evan Ratliff and senior editor Nick Thompson decided to try it themselves. Ratliff has vanished. Thompson is looking for him. You can too. Who ever finds him wins $5000. Thompson lays out the rules.

In your broadcast you mentioned that you had all the personal information any private detective would have ie passwords, bank accounts, and credit cards.

Just how much information is "out there" and therefore just how safe are our finances?

I realize that there is no longer such a thing as personal privacy but if passwords are compromised online banking etc are open to theft.

Perhaps a valuable piece could be done about financial security.

Thank you,

Bill

'D. Person' isn't a joke -- he works with me here at the National Geographic Society.
