Is There Life After Facebook?

Friday, October 26, 2012

It’s easy to forget that Facebook has only been around for eight years. In that time, Facebook’s grown from a college dorm room project to a multi-billion dollar company, and made its 27 year-old founder the 4th richest person in the United States. But Facebook’s life represents an eternity in internet years, where sites live, dominate and die at historic speeds. Surely, then, Facebook must one day die, right? According to Clay Shirky, no one ought to hold their breath waiting for Facebook's demise.

I heard a bit of this show on the radio including a ludicrous quote from some crackpot that he couldn't imagine Facebook disappearing from our world. Please don't waste our time with such lack of wisdom. Sure, Facebook is insidiously injecting themselves into all aspects of life. But let me tell you, as one who spent most of his adult life working with high tech, a new site or technology can pop up at any moment and they will be gone in an eyeblink. Personally I do admit that I am hoping for that day, but in the mean time, please continue to allow comments without a Facebook login. I appreciate it.
