The FBI's "Hatching and Financing" of Terrorist Plots

Transcript

Since 9/11, the FBI has stepped up its reliance on sting operations to catch potential terrorists before they strike. But in the process, says journalist Trevor Aaronson, the agency has ended up "hatching and financing more terrorist plots in the United States than any other group." Bob talks with Aaronson about his new book, The Terror Factory: Inside the FBI's Manufactured War on Terrorism

Here in Portland we've been listening to the trial details but what grabbed my ear in your report is the 3 billion dollar a year FBI investment in terrorism. Frontline's 01/23/2013 episode, "The Untouchables", sites this departure from traditional FBI activities as one reason for the lack of prosecutions of Wall Street executes after their corrupt institutions created demand for mortgage-backed securities that fueled the financial crisis of 2008 leading to world economic recession.

I find Aaronson's assumption that these people would most likely not find like-minded people to partner with or to supply them with money and materials less than convincing. Even if that were true 8 out of 10 times, what about the other two? Anyone that has the mindset to initiate terror (from what I understand, these people were out looking and the FBI simply stepped in) certainly has some probability of actually going through with it to the end. In other words, what we will never know is how many of these cases Aaronson is complaining about would have resulted in real terror and real deaths.

Thanks anyway Mr. Aaronson, but I think I prefer what the FBI is doing over your excessively liberal mindset. As long as they don't truly initiate the contact and/or excessively plant ideas in these people's heads, I don't see entrapment, but instead see common sense police work.

Although I enjoyed your story on lone wolf terrorists, you concentrated almost entirely on Muslims, and only briefly mentioned that more Americans have been killed by Christian lone wolf terrorists.

You entirely omitted the fact that the single deadliest lone wolf terrorist attack was the Federal building bombing in Oklahoma, carried out by Tim McVeigh, a white Christian.

When is the FBI going to start infiltrating Christian churches to root out terrorists?
