Are we to believe that the White House Press Corp really thinks that asking the question of what Obama and Hillary had for lunch is something that Americans really care about. I am so fed up with them and their lame questions. I certainly hope they do not whine and act surprised to know that not a true American in this country has a shred of respect for them.

I think the press has done this to themselves. By blowing miniscule and unimportant details and/or gaffs completely out of proportion, they have rendered all public figures gun-shy. No wonder they want to control the conversation themselves. It gets out of control in the blink of an eye, the public gets distracted and real issues that should have attention drawn to them get overlooked. As someone who lives in a rural area in a rural state I can tell you how hard it can be to get real information out here. Even in today's 24/7 media saturated internet age. You on the East Coast think a wealth of information is available and, in some cases that may be true, but in the middle of the country the loudest (mostly negative and uninformed) voices get the attention. It does not at all surprise me that President Obama chose small market anchors to convey his message. That is the only way to get his intented message to people in the hinterlands. I personally applaud the Whitehouse for taking their message directly to the people through the petition process. I hope they succeed in continuing to educate people. Believe me, no one else out here is getting through. What I would really like to see, though, is truth. From anyone!

The Obama Administration has effectively shut out traditional news media. This is neither new nor "savvy". Authoritarian regimes have done this for centuries. What is different is that American journalists have let them do it. The White House press corp, along with National Progressive Radio and the alphabet networks, act as scribes for the administration. Everything this administration says, no matter how dubious or outright false, goes unchallenged. Outside of FOX News and some of the larger conservative news websites, there have been but a handful of reporters who dare look deeper into this adminstrations policies and actions. The Fast and Furious program that directly led to the deaths of hundreds of Mexicans and two US federal agents? Other than Sheryl Attkisson at CBS there has been nary a word. The President looking America straight in the eye and lying about what happened to Ambassador Christopher Stevens? The press openly mocks those who want more information. The funneling of money and weapons to jihadis in Libya and Syria? Nothing. The takeover of Egypt and North Africa by the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaida? Nothing. Billions of stimulus funds wasted on make work projects and green energy scams? Crickets from the American press. The president's unseemly and unnprofessional partisan bashing and complete inability to perform even the simplest tasks of executive governance gets reporters like Bob Woodward mocked by pro-administration sycophants on leftist cable outlets. Tax evaders, radicals, and cronies galore in the administration go unreported. All of these would be fodder for months of hysterical headlines and calls for hearings if the president had an R after his name. The press corp and all of journalism in general has become a disgraceful sham.

You guys really buried the lede here.

That FOX news has a presence in the White House Press Room is already bizarre given that they are more right wing publicists than news people.

That the FOX news guy is the PRESIDENT of the press corps is really bizarre and I have to assume his election was a deliberate finger in the eye of the administration.

"None of the W-H correspondents are worthy journalists. The

fact that they socialized with President Obama at their

dinner is condemning of them on the face of it. That they sit

and listen to the President's PR man, Biggs or Gibbs or

whatever his name, is another mark against them. They should

be digging in the archives, in the public records for their

stories, rather than seeking bones thrown to them before the

cameras. Izzy Stone was a journalist. He did not kiss

presidential hind to write his reports. These W-H

correspondents are not worthy of his dirty socks!

Screw you, Izzy's body wasn't cold before you Right Wing Shit

began smearing him as a Communist and Agent of Russia.

What the Hell are they going to dig for? Obama has only been

President for a year.

Eight years of the Runt Bush and 30 Years of the

Reagan/Bush/Thatcher/Mulroney Axis,

CIA/Mossad/FBI/NeoCon/GOP/Jew Media/Military/NRA Kabal and

their New World Order has left the World Economy in ruins,

the Mid East in flames, Asia a Tinderbox and our reputation

in tatters while the Kabal demands more and more concessions

from the already burdened ordinary people of the World while

the Kabal Elites wallow in obscene wealth.

Within days after President Obama was Inaugurated, here are

some samples of what he was subjected to-

Yesterday's 9/11 Flyover blamed directly on Obama by NYPost

and their ilk. A certifiable conspiracy- intended to

embarrass the CIC and involving the secrecy of the DOD, NYPD

When "the delicate, ineffectual, limp-dicked Flaccid One" was

"Mark down the date. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, is the moment

that any chance of a new era of bipartisan respect in

Washington ended. By inviting the prosecution of Bush

officials for their antiterror legal advice, President Obama

has injected a poison into our politics that he and the

country will live to regret."

Already treated to several widely published pictures of the

Candidate, his Family and President's Secret Service Agent's

faces.

Some of Bush's last Fiats were big concessions to his Gun

Owner Militia who are providing chilling commentary and

unapologetic threats against Obama's plans to turn America

Communist made on innumerable Blogs.

National Public Radio interviewed a deranged Texas Gun dealer

and failed to respond to any of his lunatic claims.

"Dury says people are buying guns as well as ammunition,

creating a shortage of both. He says people are buying the

guns to protect themselves because they perceive Obama's

policies as socialist and rewarding those "people who are not

working hard." They are also afraid, he says, of more

restrictive gun laws."

Jews are playing the Reality Challenged Israeli Public

against Obama- Haaretz overflows with. "Obama will be the

Death of Israel", "Obama wants to give the Iranians Nuclear

weapons", etc etc.

The Marines don't even conceal their contempt for the

President anymore- they blame him for the ROE which don't

allow killing unarmed Afghanis and for prosecution of some

Marines who roughed up a POW. They blame him for every

casualty in Afghanistan and falsely claim he is denying them

close air support and tying their hands with ROE which he did

not create. I suspect that somewhere a super cowardly Marine

Sniper Queen, Oswald and a Jew Jack Rubinstein are practicing

to destroy the last tatters of the American Democracy.

Not to mention the numerous other Kabal Konspiracies that

seem to plague every Democrat President since Truman.

Why don't YOU dig into that pile of filth ms

Maybe the mainstream media should look in the mirror and ask why they are asking such lame questions. It's time to engage the President, not badger him with stupid questions.

Mar. 03 2013 07:33 PM

The last time I saw anyone ask the President a tough question was in the Google hangout President Obama had some weeks back. The WH Press Corps is only interested in horserace questions of the kind: Senator So-and-So called you a doodyhead -- what's your response to that? Questions on policy and context almost never happen. It is a shame, but these Press people have squandered whatever value they used to have for the silly stuff they have to race to be First! with on line. As far as I can tell, they only have themselves to blame for the current state of affairs.

If ON THE MEDIA is our media watchdog, what happens when Brooke and Ben abdicate needed coverage on an important media story? Listend to your wrap up of this week's media with narry a mention of Bob Woodward's standoff with the White House?? Excuse me, but this "confrontation" was even more important than your pretty good report on how the White House Press Corps has been marginalized... America's premiere investigative journalist locks horns with one of Obama's top aids and then feels its time to go on-camera and discuss if he was threatened by the White House or not! Would have been nice if you guys had the stones to cover that coverage! So now what do you do? BH SHAW

"You go White House Press Corps. You are crucial to us."

These statements give too much credit to an increasingly showboating and rude bunch (who increasingly seem to only occasionally call upon any "expertise" they may possess), while unintentionally indicting local news reporters whose employers should require they be at least as capable as the reporters who compete for face time during White House news conferences.

Is it to much to ask that local news reporters are up to the task of asking a substantive question of the President of the United States, especially when given an exclusive opportunity to do so?

Since the media aided & abetted the rush into Iraq, The Patriot Act et al., their loss of credibility is their own fault.

Now they think they'll gain credibility fighting to intrude on the POTUS' private schedule.

To call the WH press corps stenographers is insulting to stenographers, they're more like human dictating machines.

It's the media that is the real disgrace. Of course the White House wants to shut out the media. All the media channels and hack bloggers want to do is manipulate a set of mundane facts to create sensational crises in order to have some hook that will drive eyeballs to advertising. The golfing session with Tiger Woods is a clear example of this. The President has spent substantial time with other people on his public and private schedule. But most of those people would represent some pretty boring subject matter. So no controversy there. No hook there to sell advertising. But a story about spending time with Tiger Woods which probably has no bearing on any substantive issue, create a crises over just the visit itself because the name Tiger Woods sells papers. There are no more Edward R. Murrows or Walter Cronkites. Those days are over. Nobody cares about the substance anymore. Only in driving a process to increase revenue. Since the principle of a better informed public has become largely irrelevant to the White House press corps, then White House press corps is thereby politically irrelevant.

Listener is correct. Ann Compton, as you point out, has quite a lot of perspective on Presidents and the Fourth Estate. If she says, "To shut the media out to the extent that this administration has...is a disgrace..." you would think that this is an issue that OTM would be all over. But you haven't. You would be all over the Bush administration if they excelled at shutting the media out to this extent, but to you, the story is the press' frustration, while the Administration is "savvy."

"To shut the media out to the extent that this administration has...is a disgrace.."
Why the sudden indignation now?
Why should this year be any different than the last four?

Could it be that the election is safely over and won for the President and now the famously unbiased news media can finally vent frustration and perhaps salvage some self-respect for themselves in the lame duck term?
