OTM's Novel Challenge

November 09, 2007

November is National Novel Writing Month. So, we’re presenting a challenge to you. Write a novel in 12 words or less and send it to us at onthemedia@wnyc.org. Or post it here in our comments section. The deadline is November 19th. We'll read our favorites on the air Thanksgiving weekend. Good luck!

BOB GARFIELD: And, finally, November is Write a Novel Month, so we're presenting a challenge. Write a novel by November 19th -- actually, not a novel -- more like a really, really short novella. For inspiration, here's the shortest story we know. "For sale, baby shoes, never worn." That's Hemingway. He did it in six words. We're giving you 12. Send in your 12-word-or-less story to onthemedia@wnyc.org and we'll read our favorite on the air in two weeks.

That's it for this week's show. On the Media was produced by Megan Ryan, Jamie York, Mike Vuolo, Mark Phillips and Nazanin Rafsanjani, and edited -- by Brooke. Dylan Keefe is our technical director and Jennifer Munson our engineer, with help from Andrya Ambro and Paul Schneider. We also had help from Ian Whitehead, Jessica Magaldi and Andy Lancet. Our webmaster is Amy Pearl.

BROOKE GLADSTONE: Katya Rogers is our senior producer and John Keefe our executive producer. Bassist/composer Ben Allison wrote our theme. This is On the Media from WNYC. I'm Brooke Gladstone.

BOB GARFIELD: And I'm Bob Garfield.
